Welcome to Bella Cavalli Farms & Vineyard!
Bella Cavalli is a fifty acre farm located just outside Solvang, California in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley and just over the pass from the City of Santa Barbara. The Santa Ynez Valley, with its distinct Mediterannean climate and cultural flair, has developed a worldwide reputation for its ultra-high premium wines and beautiful horses…or “bella cavalli” as known in Italian. Entry to the farm is from Highway 246 through a large white stone façade framed with wisteria, red roses and featuring a mission bell. The entrance road is long and straight and bordered with evergreens and roses.
Since its purchase in 2003, the owners, Joanne and Jeff Lockwood, have
completely renovated the entire farm. Ten acres are now planted
to varietal grapes including cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay along
with several specialty varieties. Now the production of wine of
ultra-high quality has begun and is being made available to an intimate
but rapidly growing list of “charter
members” who savor and
endorse these distinctive vintages.
The show barn was redesigned in a French Country Style and finished with a hand cut stone exterior as were the remainder of the structures on the property. All pastures were replanted, underground sprinklers and safety fencing were installed and three arenas and a half-mile training and conditioning track were constructed.
The Farm offers a complete equestrian facility with full boarding and pasturing services and is also widely known as a professional lay-up, rehabilitation and reconditioning center where horses engaged in physically demanding activities can find ample amounts of quiet green pastures and large comfortable stalls for the rest and recuperation that rejuvenates them. And since a number of these horses also have minor soft tissue problems such as tendon and ligament injuries, Bella Cavalli has a full Rehabilitation Unit within the center to treat these and many other problems.
Bella Cavalli also offers clients a safe and professional training
center specializing in reining, dressage, jumping and English
disciplines. The training
staff of the farm, with over thirty years of experience, carefully
evaluates each client and horse as to their strengths and weaknesses
and then helps
develop individualized programs to maximize their combined capabilities.
So now the two areas of endeavor, wine and horses, are up and running nicely at Bella Cavalli. Red and white wines of exceptional quality are available and can be tasted at the farm’s quaint new tasting center (we call the “Boots N’ Bottle”)…and many then like to follow this with a tour of the equine stabling and training facilities. Horse owners and trainers on the other hand will occasionally drop by the tasting room and take home a favorite vintage from the farm’s cellar.
It is a happy marriage!
